Teacher of English
Location: SENDSCOPE Independent School, Crosby
Salary: Between £32,000 and £40,000 negotiable depending upon experience

The Role
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join our specialist independent school for pupils aged 11–16 with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEND). This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who thrive in a supportive, nurturing environment tailored to their individual needs.
You will deliver high-quality, inclusive English lessons that build literacy, communication, and confidence; work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team; and contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture where every pupil is safe, valued, and supported to achieve their best.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, structured English lessons across KS3–KS4, adapting content to meet diverse needs (including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, speech & language needs).
- Adapt learning effectively, using scaffolds, visual supports, multisensory approaches, and assistive technology where appropriate.
- Assess and track progress using formative and summative approaches; maintain accurate records; set clear, ambitious individual targets and interventions.
- Develop literacy through creative strategies (guided reading, oracy, vocabulary building, writing for real purposes) aligned with the school’s literacy framework.
- Create a calm, safe classroom environment with consistent, trauma-informed behaviour support and positive reinforcement.
- Collaborate with colleagues (HLTAs/LSAs, therapists, SENCO, pastoral team) to tailor provision and implement EHCP outcomes.
- Work in partnership with families, attending reviews and meetings; provide clear, empathetic communication on pupil progress and support.
- Contribute to curriculum development, schemes of work, resources, and cross-curricular literacy initiatives.
- Safeguard and promote welfare by following all policies, reporting procedures, and professional standards.
- Engage in wider school life, including enrichment, trips, clubs, and whole-school events.
- Reflect and develop practice, participating in CPD, peer observations, and professional appraisal.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching English at KS3/KS4 (including GCSE or equivalent pathways).
- Strong SEND expertise (or clear commitment to developing it), with practical strategies for differentiation, communication support, and behaviour for learning.
- Evidence of impact on pupil progress, particularly for learners with barriers to literacy and engagement.
- Excellent relationships skills—able to build trust with pupils, families, and colleagues; patient, empathetic, and solution-focused.
- Creative, reflective practitioner who uses data to inform planning and is confident with alternative assessment routes where appropriate.
- Resilience and professionalism, maintaining high expectations, consistency, and a calm presence.
- Strong communication and organisation, with rigorous planning, assessment, and record-keeping.

The Role
We are seeking a caring, committed, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our specialist independent school for pupils aged 11–16 with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEND). You will work closely with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide tailored academic, emotional, and behavioural support. You will help pupils access the curriculum, build confidence, and develop independence, ensuring that every learner feels safe, valued, and able to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Provide in-class support to pupils across KS3–KS4, adapting activities to meet individual needs.
